FAQs

What is a non-diagnostic 3D and 4D ultrasound scan?

A non-diagnostic ultrasound scan allows parents and family members to see their baby before its born, providing a positive bonding experience that can last a lifetime. Our elective 3D and 4D baby scans provide a realistic image, with the latest ultrasound technology adding the fourth dimension of time to a 3D baby scan image resulting in a moving 3D image of your unborn baby.

Can I self refer for a private ultrasound scan?

Yes! A doctor referral is not needed for any of our baby scans. You can easily make an appointment for any of our 3D and 4D ultrasound scans as a self-referred patient. However, your service provider must have a recognized clinical framework – correct processes for providing clinical services directly to the public – in order. All of our ultrasound services comply with guideline recommendations and are maintained to the required standards.

Are you a regulated company?

CQC

Yes! We are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) who are the independent regulator of health and social care in England.  The CQC monitor, inspect and regulate our service to ensure we are meeting the required standards of quality and safety.

How does a non-diagnostic 3D/4D ultrasound scan session differ from my prenatal providers diagnostic ultrasound exam?

While a prenatal diagnostic 2D scan is sufficient for medical purposes, you often are not given a lot of time to view your baby on the screen, and some hospitals are not equipped with screens at all. These scans are commonly in grey-scale

During your elective 3D/4D scan with Humpty Bumpty, you will have lots of time to view your unborn baby on our huge screen. You and your family members will be able to see every detail of your baby as he or she moves around in the womb.

Our 3D/4D scan sessions are specifically focused on creating a bond between the baby and family before birth. We produce clear colored images and the parents will receive photos and DVDs to bring home with them so that the moment can be cherished and shared with friends and family.

It is important to mention that Humpty Bumpty scans are for non-medical purposes and we are unable to administer scans for any reason other than to the record your baby’s image and heartbeat.

Here at Humpty Bumpty we offer a non medical/ non diagnostic scanning service, therefore please ensure that you have attended your NHS dating scan usually performed around 12 weeks gestation before you visit us. We always ask you to bring along your Antenatal Notes.

What type of 3D/4D Ultrasound Equipment does Humpty Bumpty use?

At Humpty Bumpty, we use a GE Voluson E8 Expert, which is the current leader in the field. We believe in using only the finest and most advanced ultrasound technology available, allowing you to see your baby in remarkable detail.

Will the 3D/4D ultrasound be able to tell if my baby is a boy or a girl?

Our expert equipment, the GE Voluson E8 Expert, uses advanced 3D/4D ultrasound technology that allows our qualified Sonographers to find out the gender of your baby.

However, it is your choice to find out. Whether you wish us for us to share this knowledge with you or keep it secret, all you have to do is let us know at the beginning of your scan.

Is my non-diagnostic 3D/4D Ultrasound safe?

Yes! Since ultrasound technology was introduced over 30 years ago, there has been no found evidence to suggest that ultrasound scanning presents any risk to the mother or baby.

The ultrasound output levels of our 3D and 4D baby scanning equipment are similar to those used in most hospitals and no invasive or dangerous procedures are involved. No harm will be done to you or your baby from the ultrasound beam.

It is recommended that all potential customers read through the HPA advice on Ultrasound and Infrasound:

What is the best time of my pregnancy to schedule my non-diagnostic prenatal 3D/4D ultrasound?

For optimal 3D and 4D scan images, the best time to schedule a non-diagnostic ultrasound is between 23 and 33 weeks of your pregnancy.

I am having twins, can I still have a 4D scan?

Yes. However, you will need to schedule your 4D baby scan slightly earlier, around 24 weeks of your pregnancy, as there is less space to scan your baby at time progresses. Please note with the 3D and 4D baby scanning techniques available that it is usually not possible to view both babies within the same image area.

How many people can I bring with me?

There is one large sofa in the scan room, which will provide seating for a maximum of 4 guests, but we have additional seating for up to 10 guests. The scan room is also furnished with a children’s play area so children are also very welcome to attend the scan.

Do I need a full bladder for the scan?

No, it is not necessary to have a full bladder when you attend your 3D and 4D baby scan appointment.

How much time should I allow for the 3D/4D scan?

You should arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment for your 3D and 4D ultrasound scan to fill out patient registration forms, etc.

The appointment length for our 3D and 4D scans is 15 to 30 minutes depending on which scan package you choose. This time is to allow for scanning and preparation of DVD, CD, and prints.

Our policy is not to exceed the scanning time beyond 30 minutes. Usually the scanning time will range from 10 to 25 minutes to allow for a 5, 10 or 15 minute recordings. In case your baby is not in an ideal position on arrival, the length of appointment will hopefully give you time for your baby to change his or her position.
